This class will introduce the students to basic music concepts including: steady beat, basic rhythm counting, beginning solfege singing method (i.e. Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, Ti, Do), other singing techniques, music notation, rudimentary music reading skills, rhythm instruments, composers, music history, music writing and genres. Students will learn the basics of singing, music theory, and will have a fun time learning new songs, and playing on simple percussion instruments as part of their experience.
Students will be introduced to playing the guitar as well as reading music, chord charts, and tab for the guitar. No prior knowledge necessary. Students will be introduced to many different styles of guitar music. This class will give students the abilities to play guitar in a variety of settings.
Students will be introduced to playing the recorder as well as reading music on the recorder. This will reinforce their music knowledge as well as preparing them to learn band and other wind instruments. This is a wonderful and CHEAP way to see if your child might be interested in playing a band instrument! It is also a great "first step" to making sure your child has success in a band class if they choose. At the end of the course, Mr. Taylor can make recommendations as to which band instrument your child might be best suited to play.
