Mathematics
The scope and sequence for CTC math classes are as follows: CTC recommends that each student progress as far as abilities allow in the Algebra curriculum. Geometry is recommended after Algebra 1. Business Math is offered to all high school students. Consult one of the Math teachers if you have a question about which class your student should take. There are math placement tests to help you make the best decision.
This class will cover all basic areas of multiplication, division, fractions, decimals and percents. Each basic area includes reinforcement of previously learned concepts. Each student will be placed at the appropriate level based on their placement test. We will use hands-on manipulatives in class to better see the mathematical concepts. This class includes worksheets, tests and concept projects. Supply fee includes ALL hand-outs, student notebooks, extra activity sheets and in-class manipulatives. Students may be added mid-year with tutor's permission.
This class will cover 2-3 lessons per class, with the goal of covering all 120 lessons in the text. Students should be dedicated to completing a lesson every day, working out each problem to achieve the best results in this class. Students must complete Saxon Algebra ½, Algebra 1, and Algebra 2 in order to obtain a full course of Geometry. Class time is divided into 3-25 min. segments of homework questions, new material lecture, and practice problems done in class on the board. I will offer tutoring on an as-needed basis from 8-8:30am. In addition to the textbook, students will need a 1-1/2" 3-ring binder, loose-leaf paper, spiral notebooks for class room notes, an inexpensive 5 function calculator, and graph paper. The answer key or a Teacher's Edition may be purchased for parents use only. All problems must be worked out to receive credit. Homework is counted as 75% of grade, with reworked missed problems counted for 1/2 credit. Tests and quizzes are counted 25% of total grade.

Geometry focuses on the world around us with an emphasis on the orderliness in which God created the universe. It includes the study of parallel lines and transversals, congruent triangles, and introduction to construction, proofs, similar figures, circles, and related figures. Scientific calculator, protractor, and compass are required. Supply fee includes copies and classroom supplies. Students may be added mid-year with tutor’s permission.
This class will cover two lessons each class session in the Saxon Algebra 2 text (which will include Geometry concepts although Geometry is not a pre-requisite for this course. With the Saxon curriculum Geometry concepts are spread throughout the Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Algebra 2 curriculum.) There are 5-6 hours of homework per week. Grades will be given on completion of homework (50%) and tests (50%). A scientific calculator is required. Supply fee includes copies, handouts, and classroom materials. Students may be added mid-year with tutor’s permission.
