Dear Friends,
I would like to thank you for the kindness that was bestowed on me both by individuals and collectively as a CTC family. Judging by the amount of gift cards I received i have to think that you ALL gave generously and i am humbled by that. I type with with tears in my eyes that you allowed me to serve your families in the capacity that you did with no skill set to justify that trust. I am and always have been just me.
I take away from this experience such an awe at how God equips those he calls to serve and let that be a reminder to all of you who think for one second that you could NOT do what i did. That is a lie from the enemy who would much prefer us to stay hidden and not allow people to see all we are capable of doing when we align ourselves with the will of God. Trust me! i am no big deal by myself.
Your kind words that filled not only a card but two pieces of paper as well are treasured reminders that i mattered and i will forever be armed with them when the enemy tries to tell me otherwise. Words matter so much as they bring life or death and yours have brought so much life to me!
So my next chapter many of you have asked... i dont know for sure. I have made myself available to Brooke who is taking my place ( you are all going to LOVE her!!!) and as a substitute if needed and i am continuing to serve on the CTC board. So though you will NOT being seeing me every week at school, the cord is not entirely severed as of yet. That has made my "retirement" easier to handle. The rest of time? i have a stack of books waiting for me to start coloring in ( i high light like a crazy person) and a house that could use some attention to details to start with.
In closing the words of Philippians 1:3 say it best. I will count is all joy when i remember you. Thank you ... thank you... thank you!!!!

Open House!

Open House is this Saturday, June 1st at 9:30a - 12:30p. We are so excited to meet new faces and introduce you to some of our new tutors.
Remember you MUST attend an open house before attending a registration and new families will need to schedule an interview so we can meet with you one on one.
This year is a first that I am aware of: We have two sets of Mother/Daughter tutors. Lisa Gerber will be teaching beginning sewing and her daughter, Tiffany Gerber Griffen teaches Lit, crochet, photography and art. Shelley Downes and her mom, Cindy Downes will be teaching multiple writing classes and Biology.
This merely is a small sampling of the exciting new classes we have to offer.

We have so many things scheduled for the next couple weeks. Please make note of them and plan to attend.
Thursday from 2pm to 5pm the Yearbook staff is hosting the VIP yearbook end of the year signing party!! They have worked really hard to make this a fun CTC event so please make sure your student is able to attend. One of our students, Colby is enjoying the VIP back drop for the Yearbook Signing party. If you have NOT bought a yearbook they will be available in the office on Thursday.
Tuesday, May 7th CTC staff and board members are sponsoring the first CTC Alumni Dinner. If you know a former student and/or staff member please let them know about this event so they can attend. We have had many former students express their gratitude to us for doing this.
Thursday, May 9th is not only our last day of school BUT also our Senior Assembly. This will happen during lunch and then the seniors will be allowed to sign the senior wall. Students will be able to eat during this time.

If you were to ask any of us if we try to remain in the present we would say, "of course." but fortunately for you that doesn't apply to our work.
Next week we will have the full class descriptions and catalog ready for you to begin planning your 2013-14 school year. For the first time in my history at CTC we have all of the tutors we need.
Several things we are excited about: Theater Arts is back at CTC. We are happy to welcome Karen Norman former CTC tutor back to the family. We recently hired another Elementary Tutor, Michelle Blosch. She will be teaching Reader's Theater, Reading/Grammar/Phonics and Geography. We have also hired two new tutors for High School classes; Angie Ellis will be teaching math, Advanced Grammar & ACT Prep. and Shelley Downes (Cindy Downes' daughter) will be teaching Advanced Creative Writing and College Prep Composition. The classes in BOLD are the NEW classes being offered this year, we still have the classes you have come to expect from us.
I am looking forward to our first Open House & Registration (Jun 1st & 6th) to see all these new tutors advertising their classes!

Reminders for this week:

Class Assessments are due at the end of the week. So dig deep in that stack of papers (that is where i found mine) and fill it out while you are thinking about it. We really appreciate the feedback.

Our Marketing class has posted a survey on the facebook page and asked you to fill that out. It takes all of 2 minutes and you DO NOT have to sign up for anything. This class is working on Marketing CTC more positively and creating a new brochure for us to hand out. They are also working on video commercials that are going to be a hoot!!

Oklahoma History and Debate classes are on a field trip today and tomorrow to our state capital. Please keep them in your prayers as they travel back and forth and sit in on debates, tour museums and the Capital Building. I am sure they are having a great time.

Wednesday we will NOT be in the office as Understanding The Times class has been cancelled due to the above field trip. Miss Rae gets to sleep in!!!

We are also working on next years schedule and we hope to have it available soon. We have some new tutors joining our CTC family offering writing classes and THEATER ARTS!!!!!

Back and Running

School has resumed and with that the end of our first semester. Semester grades will be available at the end of this month. Second semester has brought a new student, students adding classes AND the addition of two new tutors. We were sad to lose Ashley Thompson but happy to add Nathan Osborn and David van Risseghem to our CTC family. If you would like to add a class to your student's schedule please stop by the office at your earliest convenience.
The Yearbook is working hard to wrap up this school year's book. There are still time to order a copy!! They have also announced another SPIRIT WEEK!! Feb 5th will be hat day and Feb 6th will be pajama day. Please keep in mind that pajamas need to be dress code appropriate.
Thank you again for allowing us to be part of your home schooling plan. We count it a joy and privilege.

Finals, papers and Christmas-Oh my!!

Tis the season for Christmas shopping, picture taking and if you are a student, term papers and final examines.

Our students are no different....research papers are being done and study hall is filled with students quizzing one another for a American Gov test or Spanish test.

Yearbook students are shooting their 2012-13 commercial and Mr. Boyd's class is working on a CTC logo. Overall, i have to say this year is going quite well and i am so thankful to be part of each and every one of their lives.

If you would like to join our CTC family, we are receiving second semester enrollment applications now. Second semester begins January 8th and many of our tutors allow late enrollment in their classes.

Today marked day one of Spirit Week hosted by the Yearbook Staff. So we had some sharp dressed students as they participated in today's "Classy Day".
Thursday is "Ugly Holiday Wear" day. So wear the Christmas sweater your mom received 20 years ago or the one your great aunt Matilda knitted you and show your spirit.
THEN, Thursday night join us for the LaserQuest Costume Party hosted by the Yearbook staff. Advanced tickets available in the office for $8 or just show up at LaserQuest at 2909 S. Sheridan Rd in Tulsa from 5pm to 8pm. All profits go towards yearbook expenses.

We honored our Top Three Sellers today!
Emily Heath took 1st and received a $25 gift card for Target. Catherine Helm took 2nd and Tiara Smith took 3rd and they both received free food coupons for Chick-fil-a.
The High School students beat the younger grades and the participating students will receive their Ice Cream Sundaes at lunch next week.

School Pictures on Oct 16th all day and Oct 18th during lunch and 5th hour. This year our photography tutor, Tiffany Griffin will be taking school pictures!! Even if you have no intention of purchasing school pictures your student HAS to have their picture taken for the yearbook. Yearbook is doing something fun this year so be ready to smile.
Amish Fund Raiser is still going on. Orders to be turned in on Oct 25th. Please encourage your students to try and sell at the very least $25 worth. It is not hard and every little bit does help.
Lastly, the yearbook staff is sponsoring an event at Laser Quest on Nov 8th 5-8pm. They are selling tickets for $8 in the office and recommending you come in costume and bring a friend. They will have snacks and chance to win prizes.
First Graduation Meeting will be Oct 23rd at 6:30pm. Remember you do NOT have to be a CTC student to be part of this so invite your friends.

It's Amish Jams Fund Raiser Time!

"You want to buy from me!" says one of our students, Anna.
For the next three weeks our students will be selling Amish Goods such as jams, beef jerky, licorice and Caramel Puffcorn along with several other options.
We thought it would be fun to add a bit of competition among the younger students (3-8th grade) and the older high school students. To see which group sells the most. If you would like to order feel free to email, text or call any one of us in the office and let us know which "team" you would like it to go towards. (Anna would say the younger students for sure!!)
Winners will receive a ticket for an ice cream sundae at lunch Oct 30 or Nov 1. Stay tuned to see who wins.

Meet the CTC office staff

Tuesday the office staff was all-hands-on-deck for the first day of school. It was GREAT seeing all of our students and hearing their chatter as they greet old friends and meet new ones. It reminds us all why we are love our jobs.

Jerrylene Birchett is back as our Admin of all things financial and will be on duty Tuesdays. If it has to do with money or numbers, she is your girl. We are so glad her family decided to stay in Tulsa.

Shanan Anthony is our Admin of all things computer. She handles all forms, tutor reports, student ID’s and will be here on Thursdays. She is so knowledgeable with our computers we cannot wait to see what she will simplify for us!

Rae Heath is the Admin of all things social and is on duty all the days including Wednesday mornings this year. If its student or tutor related then she is your girl.

Roberta Smith is our new receptionist and will be the voice you hear when you call or ring up to be let in the building. She will also be contacting all our volunteers as their duties draw near.

Together we make up your 2012-13 Admin Team. We work hard, laugh a lot and genuinely love serving our CTC families. We all know without a doubt that we are supposed to be here.

We have been busy this week getting everything ready for the Open House tomorrow morning at 9:30am. Part of that was hiring our new Chemistry Tutor!!!

We are happy to announce that Sharon Craig part of our own CTC family has decided to teach the class. She has been teaching her kids for 19 years and other Co-ops for years. My favorite thing she said: "there is NO such thing as normal. We are all uniquely created by God" We are so glad to have her!

We have three new tutors now: Cindy Downes, Ashley Thompson and now Sharon Craig. Check out the "classes" section of our website for details on what they are offering or come see us tomorrow!!

This Saturday, August 4th at 9:30am- 12p we will be hosting our second and last Open House for the 2012-13 school year.
This is the opportunity for you to meet our tutors and discuss the classes they are offering, see our facility and chat with our administrative team to learn all Cornerstone Tutorial Center has to offer.
For families wishing to register on August 9th this event is mandatory as we will be scheduling new student interviews and handing out the necessary paper work for registration. We have made this a come and go event so once you have enjoyed seeing our returning tutors and meeting our new ones, received the paper work and signed signed the attendance voucher you are free to leave.

As of yesterday, CTC hired THE Cindy Downes of Oklahoma Homeschool.com!! She is a vivacious and exciting woman and eager to teach our students at CTC. She will be teaching Biology, Physical Science AND Guerrilla Marketing for Entrepreneurs.

We also interviewed a possible CHEMISTRY teacher... things are looking GREAT at CTC!!

Now that we are know we are staying it is time to get down to the business of sprucing up!

This Tuesday, May 29th starting at 9am you can donate an hour or two or all day if you like, to cleaning carpets, setting up rooms, cleaning out closets and moving heavy objects... and the list goes on.

Mostly, we need man power and carpet shampoo-ers and that means YOU, your students, your neighbors or the teen down the street who needs to volunteer for Tulsa Achieves... no able bodies will be turned away.

We are staying at EASTWOOD!! It would have been hard to move away as we have made our mark at Eastwood much like our senior class leaves their mark on the senior wall.
The board at CTC had to begin shopping around for a new/cheaper location to operate out of and although the idea of moving was exciting it was also going to be a lot of work for a lot less space.
In the end our Father God provided a way and Eastwood renegociated our lease agreement.
We apologize for any inconvenience this might have caused families in their planning however, we at CTC are so excited to see what God has planned for us this 2012-13 school year!!!
Come see us at our Open House on June 5th at 6:30 - 8:30pm to meet the tutors, talk to your admins and have some refreshments.

senior assembly

I can hardly believe next week will be the last week of school!! Twelve CTC students will be signing their names to the Senior Wall as the class of 2012.
Tuesday, May 8th will be our senior assembly at 11:10am til 11:30.
We will have a guest speaker to encourage our seniors as they begin the next part of their journey in life. Please make an effort to attend this special event.
Schedule adjustments for that day are as follows:
2nd hour 9:55 - 11:05, Assembly 11:10 -11:30, Lunch 11:30- 12:10, 3rd hour 12:15 - 1:30, 4th hour 1:35 - 2:50 and 5th hour 2:55 - 4:15.

I am sure many of you are on pins and needles wondering if our own Brett Rossi was found innocent or guilty during our mock trial, Tuesday. The jury did not deliberate long and found him INNOCENT!!! We at CTC are so proud of the work that went in to this trial and how hard they worked to pull it off.

In other news: I am happy to say that all the class descriptions are on the website ready for you to start planning the 2012-13 school year!!
Most importantly please pass along the word that we are looking for math and science tutors so we can continue to offer the essential classes like Biology and Chemistry for you all.

We are BUSY in the office!!! Our deadline for getting you the new class catalog is this Thursday and that has us hoppin'.
You may have noticed I removed all the resources from the opening page so we can update those files as well.
Today there were quite a few "suits" walking around as the 4th hour Forensic Science Class held a mock trial. It's been all the buzz around school. Will the jury find Brett Rossi guilty of murder??!
We also had some royalty among us as. The Tulsa Home School Prom was this weekend and 3 of our students were picked for Prom Royalty; Michael Mahaffey & Ky'lee Barnoski were crowned Prom King and Queen and Emily Heath was Prom Princess.
All of this in ONE day!!!

I am happy to finally be able to give you this information. I again apologize that this has taken soooo long! I am sad to say that we are not able to give it to you at as low a price as it was last year but it is cheaper than ORU is charging.
The price will be $25 for CTC families and $30 for non-CTC families. You will find a printable order form on the front page of the website. Please fill it out and send your money in by April 13th.

Testing will be on May 15 and 17th from 9am to noon.

We are still working on the details of this. The place we got our tests from last year has since closed so we are having to shop around to find the best deal for you. Last year the price was $15 the best we have found thus far is $35. please be patient with us as we work at getting that closer to what you are used to. Things Change

Pictured here (dressed for nerd day) is one of our seniors Caleb Sizemore. He is a great kid with a great heart but he wears hats to school. Atleast twice a month I have to ask him to put it away because hats are not allowed at CTC. That is until last night when the board voted not only to change it next year but make it Effective immediately!
So, Caleb, you can wear your hat now!!
Other changes that you need to make note of: Talent Show and PSAT Workshop have both been canceled. We are still working on the Achievement Testing sign ups please bear with us as we are having to find a new Iowa Test supplier.
Lastly, A big thank you for those who ate at Top That Pizza last week! We will be receiving a check for $129.57.

good day for everyone but the cat

It was a good day today for Human A&P as they got to begin dissecting a cat. They began studying the muscles and will continue to peel away the layers until they reach the skeleton. Arent you glad CTC is here so that this isnt happening on your dining room table?!!

In other news: please keep in mind i am nagging your kids about performing in our talent show. I need to know by the end of month if they are game. there is a sign up sheet on the bulletin board. Thursday, March 8th will be our talent show and chili dinner. Rather than sell tickets this year we are going to just charge admission and all proceeds will go towards general expenses that keep us going.
That being said there has been talk that we may NOT be around next year. Let me assure you that the board, admins and returning tutors are resolved in our purpose that CTC is still relevant and needed in the home school community and though this year has been lean we are confident that next year will be better.

The yearbook staff has desiged the coolest tshirt to use as a fund raiser for the yearbook!! We love it and trust that you will to!
Tuesday, is your last day to order yearbooks for the discounted price of $35.
When you order a yearbook you can receive $5 off the $20 tshirts. Select your color, size (youth & women sizes available) and whether you want a t-shirt or hoodie.
Order froms should have been picked up in family folders OR get one in the office on Tuesday!! Yearbook staff will be selling them in the lunchroom during lunch for your convenience.

walking calendars

I have the privledge of serving on the board here at CTC with some amazing people, one of those people is the wise Susan Strelow who served 17 years at CTC and continues to serve as our historian on the board.
She keeps us on schedule by reminding us what we should be doing "around this time". I asked her if i would ever be a "walking calendar" like she is because she just amazes me that even after being away for a couple of years she still remembers.
When i sat down to write this blog to remind you of important dates we had coming up, i realized "i am a walking calendar!" we all are! If you are a wife, a home school mom, do anything with sports, prom or church - we have to keep mental calendars! The challenge is to make sure my important dates get on to your mental calendar.
So please check the calendar on our website we work hard to make sure everything is there and notifiy you of things like yearbook sales (right now for the month of january they are $35) prom ticket sales and dead lines for getting your students enrolled at Tulsa Tech for the 2012-13 school year is Feb 10th.
Life is crazy busy but when we join together in the craziness there is always a hand to hold. :o)

Yearbooks go on sale Tuesday,17th!! I would like to encourage you to purcahse one. The Yearbook staff spend a great amount of time making sure that all aspects of CTC and the home school community is represented. You can also purchase an ad or dedication ad if you like.

Thursday, marks the end of our first semester and grades are due on the 24th. We also put the Tutor/CTC evaluations in family folders last week. We are beginning to work on the 2012-13 school year. This is always one of my favorite times as we plan all of the new classes we are going to offer.
Lastly, I have a few empty slots on the calendar for lunchroom volunteers. If this is something you could help out in please give me a call.

Three weeks is a long time to be "on break"
For us adults break begins in time for us to start the sprint that is required to get ready for christmas.
I took my CTC hat off and enjoyed my family, friends and snuggling on the couch with my furry babies.
As the day approaches to resume school (TOMORROW) i feel the internal momentum driving me towards it and the couch has nothing for me (even tho the doggies are still there) and the excitement of seeing the CTC kiddos grows. New enrollment for 2nd semester classes begins and prom tickets and year books go on sale. Its an exciting time approaching, its a new year! So heres to classes tomorrow (i will raise my coffee cup) may it be full of smiling faces and excitment for all that the Lord has for us in 2012!!

We have big announcements!!

We are so excited about the new classes we are able to offer you at CTC!! We have hired a new tutor, Timothy Moser. He is going to teach SAT PREPARATORY COURSE for Juniors and Seniors on Wednesdays at 8:30 - 9'50am. His class starts Jan 18th so call the office and register! We also have for you a Reading Frenzy Class and a core study of the 1940's. you can find more details under the "classes" section of our website.

"The Pirate" A story of love, deception and mystery. Come join us Thursday night, Dec. 8th at 6:30pm. It will be a fun evening and great way to celebrate our Christmas break.
We do not charge admission however we do sell home made baked goods and all proceeds go towards the Drama Department. Donations are happily received and appreciated.
We could also use a dad to work security that night to go toward your volunteer hours. Please let me know if you would enjoy doing that.

Tomorrow begins our 2nd Semester Enrollment special. In our hopes of offering you a plethra of wonderful options we forgot to factor in that we are moms and this is a busy time for us all.

I am able to offer you FOR SURE the reading frenzy class which is going to be an amazing adventure for any student who loves to read and hopefully spark a passion to read for all those non-readers out there.

The class details are in the "classes" section of the website under Language Arts and the Sylabus is in the office. The new website is fun but nothing is "easy" yet.

In a world that moves so quickly and we are all rushing to get our kids to the next activity, it is good to pause, look around and admire the handy work of our Father God.

Please remember to pick up your Amish Bakery Fund Raising items before Thanksgiving Break.
I am going to continue to have the candle warmers and melts available for sale until after the holidays for your convenience.

Over the break remember to check out the classes we are offering for Second Sememster.

Amish Bakery Fund Raiser

Last Thursday our families turned in their amish bakery fund raising forms. Amanda Schatzmann is our top seller!!! She won dinner at Shiloh's Resturant and a $25 gift cert to Cinamark Theaters.

We would like to thank you all for your participation and to the many people who purchased items. You are a blessing!!

Orders will be ready for pick up next week. Which is much quicker than in years past.

It's a great year to be at CTC!
