This class is for any student who would like to learn the basics of sketching, cartooning, and calligraphy. We will explore different mediums, such as, pencils, colored pencils, charcoal, and pen and ink. We will use various curriculums, including lessons from the book Draw Squad by Mark Kistler. Mark is an artist that travels the United States teaching kids to draw. He has had two shows on PBS, The Secret City and Mark Kistler’s Draw Squad. Students will learn many drawing techniques, including perspective, shadowing, contouring, overlapping, foreshortening, etc. Students’ art will be displayed twice a year. Due to the fact that art supplies are expensive, they will be mostly for classroom use. Students will have drawing assignments for homework each week.
